about
Thank you to everyone who so generously supported last week’s song (as tears go by), and in doing so, supported Project Bread and The Boston-Cambridge Musicians Relief Fund ~ thank you thank you! This week’s proceeds go to The Boston/Cambridge Musicians Fund and The Record Company’s Musicians Fund.
A couple of weeks ago, a beloved friend shared this week's song on a thread of beloved friends and it blew my mind, for two reasons: 1) the gorgeous perfection of it & 2) that I’ve somehow lived to the age of 53 without knowing the beauty of Labi Siffre’s music. I don’t know how I’ve missed out on this guy, and I’m pretty sure that I should be embarrassed by this, but it’s so wonderful to find something that’s both new and old to dive into deeply, and to fall in love with a catalogue of work that has been a jolt and a comfort in this shut-in, frightening, disorienting time.
(I didn’t prompt my friend to post this as a cover request this past week, but I was hoping she would, and she knows me well, so she did.)
Bless the telephone! Still the best way to connect to the hearts we love when we can’t be in a room with them, or see their (beloved) faces up close, or touch them.
This song (I think) is a romantic love song, but I’m sending it out to my friends, with whom I am in fact very much in love. When I can hug you people again, ribs will crack.
We all thank you, with continued wishes for health and safety,
Tanya, Russell, Joe, and this week’s guest singer: Scott Janovitz! (One of my favorite voices, and people.)

like the best lyrically driven bands from the 90s, stripping Belly down to their elements only serves to make their impact that much more poignant. Like the sundays' Harriet Wheeler, Tanya's vocals have a way of cutting through the gloom, illuminating ever greater depths. For the fans, no doubt, as we enjoy a new taste with old friends... but also for someone looking to discover, as well. Name your price. Float away for 6 or 7 minutes. Awaken a touch better centered. setaside2

My sis and I used to love our vinyl copy of the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang soundtrack and this takes me right back to our attempts to recreate the film in our dining room! alf0d
